what we believe
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic (universal) church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
We believe the Bible is God’s Word to us and because God doesn’t lie, it’s completely true. We believe that we can trust it completely to guide our actions and guard our lives.
We believe in one God, Creator of all things, who is personal, all-powerful, and perfect. He exists eternally in three Persons – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This divine mystery of Three-in-One we call the Trinity- meaning that the three persons of our One-essence, singular God are identical in nature, equal in power and glory and have the same attributes and perfections.
We believe Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, is truly God and truly man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary in order to reveal God and rescue us- sinful people. He accomplished this by dying on the cross in our place as a voluntary, substitutionary (our substitute) sacrifice. He rose physically from the dead and then ascended to heaven- to the Father. We believe that Jesus will personally and physically return one day and He will be the unmistakable King. He will fully establish His kingdom, judging in equity and justice all people who have ever lived. He will receive those who allowed Him to rescue them into eternal life while sadly giving over those who were unrepentant and unwilling to receive his rescue to hell.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, is present and active now in the world. The Spirit convicts people of sin, brings new life to us in Jesus, and lives within all of Jesus’ followers. He establishes us into the Jesus’ family, the church, gives us gifts and abilities to benefit and grow one another and God’s church, empowers us to grow to be like Jesus, and guarantees that our rescue in Jesus is permanent- it can’t go away.
We believe in the value and dignity of all people, male and female, because they were created in the image and likeness of God. When the human race rebelled against God, we inherited a sinful nature, resulting in our condition of being alienated from God. As a result, we are totally incapable of remedying our lost condition on our own- only God can rescue us.
We believe salvation is a gift of God given to us by God’s incredible grace- we can’t earn it or make ourselves worthy of it by anything we do (or don’t do). We receive this gift by personal faith (trust, confidence in) in Jesus Christ, whose very life was given so that our sins can be forgiven. When we put our confidence in Jesus and what He has done for us, God forgives our sins, makes us right with Him, and adopts us into His family as His own children.
